Buzz catches gmail users unaware

The other day I was going through a thread on my Buzz and I was amused to read the conversation happening between 2-3 people (incidentally I just know one person from the list). The person in question was confused on this sudden flood of threads happening in his Gmail and the other two people took a dig on him on how easily they have entered in his email space and very soon based on next feature rolled out (by google) they would be able to open his emails too! A little far fetched but it highlights the main pain points which users like him and me are facing.  One of the main problems that I have noticed in Buzz is the sudden slur of threads that have started off without my knowing. One fine day I wake up to see 10 people following me and surprisingly I was also following somjavascript:void(0)e 20 odd guys! How did I follow them - I have no clue.

Hopefully Google will solve these. As I read, Google is already taking steps to fix this issue. But the bigger challenge for Google would be to make the entire 'gmail integrated' buzz thing less intimidating and more user friendly to understand what's going around.

The role of women in social media

My friend Sahana would love to read this. Expect some comments from her :-). Putting across some interesting posts on the role of women in social media.

Jessica Carter, a columnist and developer of various social media tools is bullish about the role of women in social media.
On the other hand in another column Maggie Mcgary questions whether social media really offers opportunities for women.

What's your pick on this? Would love to know.

Accountability in Social Media

An interesting article that I read recently was on the need of Accountability in social media. How do you bring in accountability to your entire social media strategy? How do you calculate the ROI? What steps?

Filtering imporvements for Buzz

Buzz is going through more round of changes. As user feedback keeps pouring in, the engineers at Google have been kept busy with constant improvements to the newest collaborative platform to hit the social media circuit. In latest news it's been reveled that Google will be bringing content filtering improvements in Buzz. Content privacy has always been the sore point with any social networking platform. Last year we saw a huge debate when Facebook changed their privacy settings. This year won't be any different.

Check this news out.

Google creates buzz!!

So search giant Google is back in news again (are they ever off it?). This time with their take on social networking platform. Their platform, appropriately called The Buzz is making news. Personally I am a bit skeptical about it at this stage. I quite didn't like the interaction and the UI but it's too early to comment about it as it's still in beta stage and with constant user feedback, I am sure they will add more features & fixes. By biggest sore point is that it's not compatible with Facebook ( I smell a rat here - after all, Microsoft never liked Google).

Buzz has already created a buzz amongst Gmail users. As this story confirms, it has crossed 9 million posts & comments within 4 days of its launch. Read more to find out.

Social Media

Blink an eye and chances are something new would have unleashed in the world of social media. Yes, things are changing rapidly across us. This is an exciting new world that we are living in. A world without boundaries, connected and made flat on the collaboration platform. Every day as I come to office, open my laptop, read updates on the sites I susbscribe to, I realize loads have changed in the past 24 hours. It fascinates me, at times overwhelms me - makes me feel like a drop of water in this vast ocean of new media.

This blog is my attempt to bring what I come across daily in the social media & enterprise 2.0 world. Mostly it will be an aggregator of interesting topics that I come across but occasionally you will find columns from me too.

So here comes the 1st post. Looking forward to hear comments from you.
